Top 10 best value places to eat in Nottingham
Recently it was great to see Nottingham featured in the Guardian where they suggested the top 10 budget restaurants. Inevitably some debate ensued on Twitter so I thought I’d give my top 10 for cheap eats in the city.
1. Nada Budaya
As it’s located underneath Brewdog you might have missed this one. With 2 courses for £12.50 as an earlybird deal you can’t go wrong with this Malaysian restaurant. I recommend the beef Rendang. Read my full review
2. The Cod’s Scallops
You’ll have to travel to Wollaton for this one, but its worth it. My favourite location for fish and chips where you can take away excellent cod and chips for £6.70. Read my full review
3. Brown Bettys
A institution in Nottingham! You’ll get few airs and graces at this little sandwich shop in St James’s Street. You’ll get melts, sloppy joe’s and plenty more for under £10 and you won’t be left hungry.
4. Aurora
For a fine dining experience on a budget you can’t beat Aurora. 2 courses in the evening might set you back £19.95 but the ingredients and ambition of the menu means it is well worth it. Read my full review
5. Yamas
One choice from the Guardian’s article I could never disagree with is this excellent Greek restaurant. 3 dishes for £6.95 is one of the best deals in town. Read my full review
6. Bistrot Pierre
Another spot that has great lunch and early evening menu’s Bistrot Pierre is very consistent. I 2 courses from £14.95 in the evening recently with a very good pork dish, they provide a side of vegetables too that lots of places wouldn’t with a cheaper menu. Read my full review
7. Tarn Thai
I can’t claim that it is cheap in an evening but did you know they did a set lunch menu? £9.50 for 2 courses with coffee sees them notably adjust portion sizes but at that price you can have little complaints. Read my full review
8. Iberico / Baresca
I’ve grouped these together as they are both good and both offer top deals. Baresca is a little cheaper at £9.95 for 3 dishes. Iberico offer 2 dishes, Catalan bread to start and a dessert. Great vegetarian options at both these restaurants too! Read my full review of Iberico Read my full review of Baresca
9. Desi Downtown
There are lots of good Indian restaurants in Nottingham but none better value than Desi. A chicken biryani at £6.95 is enough to satisfy you on its own, to stretch the budget try something from their grill. Read my full review
10. Roosters Piri Piri
I’m not ashamed to admit I’m a regular at this franchised chicken outlet! It’s a bit like Nandos but…better…and cheaper!! Chips, chicken burger and a drink here is just over £5
Good list! There are a few here that I haven’t tried yet. I’d also add Chai Yo which is a bit hidden away but incredibly cheap with great service and delicious food 🙂
Thanks! I have been actually…it was a friends birthday and they carved her name in a melon! They’re rather lovely
Great list – even though i’ve lived in Nottingham pretty much all my life I still haven’t eaten at all these places yet. Shocking. I must rectify that!
You must 🙂
